Teeny tiny self care tips

Self care isn’t exactly something on the top of my list. I know it’s important and people are always reminding me to remember to “take time to yourself.” If you are anything like me this can be extremely hard to do. I usually make sure everyone around me has all that they need before I think of what I may need. I am the opposite of high maintenance. I pretty much am just maintaining. 😉 I know that so many of us don’t have the time to get out for hours without any kids, and even if you have the time there so many other reasons why you can’t! Finances and childcare issues are just two huge factors for so many of us.

But moving forward I am going to do my very best to add in a little bit of self care when I can, and here are some of my ideas…

  1. Cranking up the music and dance while I do the dishes. This should be an easy one! I already do dishes a couple times a day and I love music. Did you know there are SO many benefits to listening to music? Not only does it make you happier it can reduce stress and improve your health. Find more HERE if you’re interested in the benefits.
  2. Get moving. Whether it’s heading to my moms to hop on her treadmill while she watches my boys or taking my laundry upstairs in multiple trips instead of just one. I know this sounds crazy but sometimes I don’t take it all upstairs at once just so I’m forced to walk up and down the stairs a few more times.
  3. Taking 10 minutes to myself. I can get up earlier than the kids and enjoy my first cup of coffee while it’s still hot or stay up a few minutes later to take a warm bath or read a good book. Currently I’m reading Rising Strong by Brene Brown, there will definitely be more to come about this book in the future. I am loving it!
  4. Sending someone I love and appreciate a quick note. I know this isn’t exactly something just for me BUT I feel that spreading positivity and spreading joy to someone else is equally as joyful to the giver.
  5. Only allowing positive energy in my space and not allowing someone’s bad attitude to change mine. Who you surround yourself with is a reflection of you. I am refusing to allow those who drain me emotionally in my life.

I think these small changes are a good way to do tiny bits of self care! I know that not everyone feels like 10 minutes alone is doable, especially if you are a single parent, and I know that not everyone has family support so close like our family does. BUT we all have music! We all can turn up the tunes and dance in the kitchen or sing karaoke in the car. Now go crank up the radio and take a couple minutes to take care of you.
